What are silicone profiles?

Silicone profiles are extruded sealing and protection profiles manufactured from silicone rubber. This elastomer is known for its high temperature resistance, flexibility and long-term ageing stability.

Silicone rubber profiles are used in environments where temperature fluctuations, UV exposure or chemical influences play a significant role.

Properties of silicone rubber

Silicone rubber is characterized by:

  • Resistance to high and low temperatures
  • Good UV and ozone resistance
  • Long-term elasticity
  • Chemical resistance (depending on compound type)
  • Suitability for industrial and technical applications

The exact performance depends on the selected compound and hardness (Shore A).

Applications of silicone profiles

Silicone profiles are used as sealing profiles, heat-resistant gaskets, protective profiles and technical seals in industries such as:

  • Mechanical engineering
  • Food processing
  • Medical applications
  • Electronics and electrical systems
  • Oven and high-temperature installations

Custom silicone profiles

Silicone profiles are typically manufactured as custom extrusions. Profile geometry, wall thickness, hardness and compound formulation can be adapted to meet specific installation and performance requirements.

For applications where standard shapes are not sufficient, silicone profiles are produced as custom rubber extrusions according to drawing, sample or dimensional specification.

Silicone compared to other elastomers

Compared to materials such as EPDM or NBR, silicone rubber offers superior temperature resistance and long-term flexibility. For applications requiring oil resistance or high mechanical strength, alternative elastomers may be more suitable.

The correct material selection depends on temperature range, chemical exposure and mechanical load.

Is silicone rubber the same as silicone?

Silicone rubber is an elastomer made from silicone polymers. In common usage, the terms “silicone” and “silicone rubber” are often used interchangeably. Technically, silicone rubber refers specifically to the elastic, rubber-like form of silicone.

Silicone can exist in different forms, including liquid silicone, sealants and resins. Silicone rubber is used in applications where flexibility, sealing performance and temperature resistance are required.
