Collection: Pneumatic Fenders

What are pneumatic fenders

Pneumatic fenders are inflatable rubber fender systems designed to absorb impact energy between vessels and structures. They consist of a rubber outer layer filled with compressed air, allowing controlled deformation under load.

The air-filled construction enables pneumatic fenders to distribute impact forces evenly while reducing peak loads during contact.

What are pneumatic fenders used for

Pneumatic fenders are commonly used in marine and offshore applications where vessels berth alongside quays, jetties or other ships. Typical uses include ports, terminals and ship-to-ship operations.

They provide protection during berthing and mooring by cushioning contact and limiting structural stress.

Are pneumatic fenders suitable for high-impact marine applications

Yes, pneumatic fenders are suitable for high-impact marine applications due to their energy-absorbing capabilities. The compressed air allows the fender to adapt to varying vessel sizes and berthing conditions.

This helps reduce damage risk to both vessels and infrastructure during repeated operations.

What affects the performance of pneumatic fenders

The performance of pneumatic fenders depends on factors such as fender size, internal pressure and installation method. These factors influence energy absorption, reaction force and durability.

Selection should therefore be based on vessel characteristics, operating conditions and the specific requirements of the berthing environment.

ISO 17357 APPROVED PNEUMATIC FENDERS

1. Outer rubber layer:

The outer rubber layer protects the cord layer and the inner rubber layer from abrasion and external forces

2. Cord layed:

The synthetic tire cord layer maintains internal air pressure and distributes stress evenly

3. Inner rubber layer:

The liner of the rubber membrane seals in pressurized air

Pneumatic fenders offer significant energy absorption with minimal surface pressure impacting the ship, making them a preferred choice for protecting vessels. They are widely used by large tankers, LPG vessels, ocean platforms, bulk carriers, and floating structures, as well as major docks, harbors, and wharves.

Pneumatic fender safety valve

Pneumatic fender safety valve

Safety valves are a standard feature on all pneumatic fenders with dimensions starting from a diameter of 2500 mm and a length of 4000 mm.

For fenders operating at an internal pressure of 0.5 Bar (50 kPa), the safety valve is configured to activate at 175 kPa.

For fenders that maintain an internal pressure of 0.8 Bar (80 kPa), the activation setting of the safety valve is adjusted to 230 kPa.
