Applications of PTFE gasket sheets

PTFE gasket sheets are often used in chemical processing, petrochemical and pharmaceutical plants, heat exchangers, and flange and valve sealing where aggressive media and elevated temperatures are present. Their chemical inertness, low friction and broad media compatibility make them suitable for static seals, gasketing between metal flanges and contamination‑sensitive systems, including applications that specify Teflon; use of expanded virgin ptfe is common where minimal dimensional change under load is required.

They may be less suitable for dynamic sealing or highly abrasive services where mechanical wear, extrusion risk or the need for high elastic recovery dominate; in such cases elastomeric or composite alternatives are often considered depending on operating conditions.

PTFE gasket sheets specifications

Hardness: 50–65 Shore D
Density: 2.10–2.30 g/cm³
Tensile Strength: 20–35 MPa
Elongation at Break: 200–400 %
Temperature Range: −200 °C to +260 °C
Resistance: chemicals, solvents, acids, bases, moisture

PTFE (Teflon) is known for its excellent chemical resistance, very low friction, and outstanding performance at extreme temperatures.

Custom production

In addition to standard PTFE gasket sheets, we can CNC cut custom shapes and dimensions to your drawing. Suitable for prototypes, small series and repeat production.

FAQ

What are PTFE gasket sheets?

PTFE gasket sheets are flat sealing materials manufactured from pure expanded virgin PTFE. They combine chemical inertness, thermal stability, low friction and minimal dimensional change under load to form cut-to-shape gaskets and seals for industrial joints and flanges.

What are PTFE gasket sheets used for?

PTFE gasket sheets are used to produce gaskets and custom seals for equipment in chemical processing, pharmaceutical, food processing, petrochemical and water treatment applications, as well as for valves, pumps, flanges and heat exchanger connections where chemical resistance and minimal creep are required.

How resistant are PTFE gasket sheets to chemicals?

PTFE gasket sheets offer excellent resistance to a wide range of corrosive media and are generally chemically inert to most acids, bases and solvents. Compatibility with specific aggressive or oxidising substances should be confirmed for each application; contact the technical team for compatibility advice.

How should PTFE gasket sheets be handled and installed?

Handle PTFE gasket sheets with care to avoid nicks and sharp-edge damage, store them flat and keep sealing faces clean prior to installation. Cut sheets with appropriate tools and avoid excessive compression during assembly to prevent extrusion. For application-specific installation guidance consult the technical team.
