What are rubber window seals?
Rubber window seals are rubber sealing profiles installed around glass panels in vehicles, boats, machinery and structural constructions. They provide a watertight and airtight connection between the glass and the frame or mounting groove, while helping to prevent stress on the glass.
In addition to sealing, rubber window seals protect against vibration, temperature fluctuations and mechanical load. The correct profile shape and dimensions are essential for proper installation and long-term performance.
We stock various standard rubber window seals in commonly used profile shapes and glass thicknesses. For non-standard dimensions or specific applications, rubber window seals can also be supplied according to drawing, sample or exact dimensional specification.
Replacing rubber window seals
When replacing rubber window seals, it is important to carefully remove the existing glass panel and the old seal. In many cases, old seals need to be cut in order to safely remove the glass from the mounting groove. Reusing old rubber seals is generally not recommended, as the material may have lost its elasticity.
After removing the glass, the condition of the mounting frame or groove should be inspected. Any corrosion or damage should be repaired before installing new rubber window seals. The original dimensions of the groove must be maintained to ensure proper fitment of both glass and seal.
Glass panels may be laminated or tempered. Before removal, it is advisable to identify the type of glass, as this affects the removal and installation procedure.
New rubber window seals must precisely match the glass thickness, groove dimensions and profile shape. Incorrect sizing can result in leakage, stress on the glass or installation difficulties.
We supply custom rubber window seals based on specified dimensions, profile drawings or physical samples. Glass thickness, groove width and required sealing pressure can be taken into account.
Replacing rubber window seals on boats
When replacing rubber window seals in boats or other marine applications, particular attention must be paid to water resistance and UV stability. Due to exposure to sunlight, moisture and temperature changes, rubber profiles can deteriorate over time.
For marine windows, rubber window seals can be manufactured in suitable compounds such as EPDM or other weather-resistant elastomers. Production can be based on profile drawings, samples or exact measurements of the glass and mounting groove.
Correct fitment and appropriate material selection are essential for a durable and watertight seal.
